Connected Sources

Experimental feature

Connected Sources is off by default. Enable it under Application Settings → Experimental Features → Connected Sources. The toggle is per browser and is remembered there. See Settings.

Connected Sources lets you browse an app integration and connect its items to Istari as resources. Select a folder or a hierarchical model to connect everything under it at once.

Teamwork Cloud and PTC Windchill app integrations are supported.

Enable Connected Sources

  1. Click your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar.
  2. Select Application.
  3. Under Experimental Features, turn Connected Sources on.

A connect icon appears in the Resources panel header. Turn the toggle off the same way to hide it.

Before You Start

  1. Ask your administrator to add a Teamwork Cloud or PTC Windchill app integration with its API server address. Administrators, see App Integrations.
  2. Add your credentials for that integration in Linked Accounts.

Connect Resources

  1. Click the connect icon in the Resources panel header.
  2. Select an app integration.
  3. Select the items to connect.
  4. Click Connect.

Istari syncs the selected items from the source. Folders and large models can take a while. To check progress, select the resource in the Resources panel.

Connected resources appear in the Resources panel under a sub-header for their integration, such as Teamwork Cloud or PTC Windchill.

Teamwork Cloud

Pick a workspace, a project and a branch, then choose what to sync. Sync the entire branch connects everything under the branch, including anything added to it later.

PTC Windchill

  1. Pick a context: a Product, Library or Project. On a long list, type in the filter box above it; * matches anything (ZZD* for names starting with ZZD, *Library* for names containing it) and a bare word matches anywhere in the name.
  2. The context opens on its Latest Released configuration for the root part view (usually Design), the way Windchill's own folder browser shows one tree. The Configuration toggle above the tree offers the other configurations, one pair per part view the server defines:
    • Latest Released follows each part's highest released revision. Parts without a released revision are not shown. Documents and CAD documents use their released iteration when they have one, otherwise their latest. Use this for analysis of what has been released.
    • Latest follows each part's newest iteration, including work in progress. Switching configuration clears what you had checked: a connection follows one configuration.
  3. Choose what to sync from the context's folders. Sync the entire context connects every folder, part, document, CAD document and change notice in it.

A connected part brings its attributes and the documents that describe or reference it. A connected document brings its attributes, its primary content file and its attachments, each as its own resource with its own file type, so a PDF or spreadsheet attachment can run the functions for that file type. A connected CAD document runs the Creo module's Windchill functions, such as Windchill Extract, on the exact iteration it was synced at.

Re-syncing a Windchill resource creates a new version in Istari only when the object changed in Windchill.

Sync a Resource

Pull the latest changes from the source into Istari.

  1. Open the resource.
  2. Click Sync in the page header.

The Sync button shows when the sync is complete.

Edit the Sync Selection

Choose which child items are included when a connected resource syncs.

  1. In the Resources panel, click the ⋯ (more actions) icon on the integration sub-header.
  2. Select Edit Selection.
  3. Check or uncheck items. Unchecked items stop syncing but remain as resources in Istari.
  4. Click Save.

Disconnect a Source

  1. In the Resources panel, click the ⋯ (more actions) icon on the integration sub-header.
  2. Select Disconnect.
