AI Steering

AI Steering sets the prompt text applied to every AI chat turn in the organization. Changes take effect on the next message.

Navigation: Admin hub > AI Steering (or go to /admin/ai-settings)

The page heading is AI configuration.

Edit a prompt

Each prompt is its own card. The cards are:

PromptWhat it does
Base groundingFoundational instructions and the concept glossary sent at the start of every turn. The other prompts are appended to it.
Steering promptExtra guidance such as tone and policy. Applied after the base grounding and before the tool-use guidance.
Tool-use guidanceWhen to use tools versus answer directly. Applied last.

A card shows Using default until you save a change, then Customized.

  1. Edit the text. A counter shows how many characters you have used, up to 32,000. Save stays disabled while the text is unchanged, too long, or a save is in progress.
  2. Click Save. A toast confirms AI configuration saved.
  3. Click Discard changes to drop edits you have not saved.

Reset or restore

  • Reset to default is available on a Customized prompt. It clears your text and restores the built-in prompt. A toast confirms Reverted to the default.
  • History lists earlier versions of that prompt. Restoring a version copies it into the editor; you still click Save to keep it. Restoring the default uses Reset to default.

Preview the assembled message

Click Preview assembled message to read the full prompt the chat will send: base grounding, then the steering prompt, then the tool-use guidance.

Leave with unsaved edits

If you navigate away with unsaved prompt text, a dialog asks Discard unsaved AI configuration?

  • Keep editing stays on the page.
  • Discard and leave drops the unsaved text and continues.
